Waymouth Street Billiards Club brings a new generation of cue sports to Adelaide through a social club centred on play, gathering and community. Located on Waymouth Street, the venue introduces Heyball—a rapidly growing form of Chinese eight-ball—to Adelaide, creating a space where experienced players and newcomers can meet, compete and spend time together.
Kasawoo’s design places social interaction at the heart of the club. Rather than treating the billiards tables as a series of isolated playing areas, the space is organised to encourage movement, conversation and chance encounters between games. Eight tournament-standard tables form the centre of the room, surrounded by seating, gathering areas and hospitality spaces that allow spectators and players to share the same environment.
The interior balances the focused atmosphere of competition with the informality of a social club. Warm timber, tactile materials, considered lighting and carefully selected furniture create a relaxed setting, while moments of colour and soft forms help define different areas for playing, watching and gathering. The arrangement allows the club to shift naturally between busy tournament nights, casual games and quieter moments with friends.
Waymouth Street Billiards Club demonstrates how a specialist sporting venue can become a broader piece of social infrastructure. By placing gathering and community alongside the game itself, the project transforms billiards from an individual activity into a shared experience—creating a welcoming contemporary club built around play, conversation and connection.
